A Heartwarming Act of Kindness

In a world that can sometimes feel heavy, a glimmer of hope shines through in the warm story of little Lola from Leicester. Thanks to the impressive determination of three students at Lubrizol and their half marathon challenge, Lola's journey towards a better quality of life is looking a lot brighter!
Community Spirit at its Finest
Who says fundraising canât be a bit of fun? Nathan Sawyer, Faith Battersby, and Beth Sims not only ran the Derby Ramathon, but they also turned their sweat into an incredible ÂŁ3,500âover three times their initial target! Talk about taking your running shoes and slapping them on the pavement for a good cause. Their efforts are reminiscent of that time you vowed to run every day after a New Year's resolutionâonly they actually stuck to it!
The generosity didnât stop with just the students; local community members were so moved by Lolaâs story that they opened their wallets wider than a kid in a sweet shop. Mum Bethony beautifully summed it up, saying, âIt restores our faith in humanity that this huge amount of money has been raised.â
A Life-Changing Treatment
At just three years old, Lola's diagnosis of spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy has presented challenges, but sheâs showing the strength of a gladiator! Her parents have noted significant progress from the private physiotherapy sessions, which are crucial in those formative yearsâlike a plant growing towards the sunshine.
Bethony mentioned how Lola can now sit up for several minutes and is steadily working towards standing. âItâs about her quality of life as much as it is reaching milestones,â she reflects. And through this community effort, Lola is finding both support and smiles, proving that a little kindness can indeed go a long way.

Bristol Airport's Litter Heroes Take Action!
In a display of true grit, a group of eco-warriors from Bristol Airport braved the elementsâcomplete with gusty winds and a drizzle that could rival a shower to clean up their roads. Their commitment to keeping the local area tidy shines bright, proving that even the wettest days can lead to positive impacts!
A Team Effort for the Environment
Joined by four valiant construction workers from Farrans Construction and Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd, the airport team set out on a mission that many would shy away from. Together, they tackled litter-littered lands just off the main Airport roundabout, collecting a grand total of 14 bags of rubbish. You might expect to find the usual suspects in a litter pick, like snack wrappers or bottles, but they also unearthed some quirky treasuresâa mismatched flip flop and even an office chair turned trash!
Recyclables and Unusual Finds
Whatâs more, the effort wasnât just a hodgepodge of rubbish. The team made sure to separate recyclables from the non-recyclables, embracing their commitment to sustainability. Just when you thought you'd seen it all, they found a disposable BBQ and an old traffic cone as well. Next time youâre in the area, have a lookâBristol Airport may very well be trendsetting in litter, or at least giving the local council a run for their money on waste management!
Bristol Airport and its partners have shown that the community spirit can truly thrive. So, if you think a little rain should keep people indoors, think again! As they say, âJust because itâs stormy outside doesnât mean we canât make sunshine with our actions.â â¨
Furniture Fit for Wimbledon: A Green Revolution

In a delightful twist of fate for tennis lovers and eco-warriors alike, a Belgian eco-designer is transforming discarded tennis balls into bespoke furniture. Yes, you read that right! Instead of languishing in landfills for 400 years, these once bouncy balls now serve a stylish purpose at home.
A Serve of Sustainability
Mathilde Wittock, a pro at reimagining waste, has found a creative loophole in the waste generated by the sport. With 300 million tennis balls manufactured each yearâmost of which get tossedâWittockâs mission is to repurpose them into unique pieces like chaise lounges and benches. She and her team can carve out an impressive 1,800 balls a day, turning that fuzzy felt into delightful designs that even your sofa would envy.
Just consider this: 70,000 tennis balls were used at the recent US Open, yet so many end up as mere landfill fodder. Wittock states it well: âIf itâs not a circle, and if you canât reuse (the elements), itâs not eco-design.â This little philosophy transforms the game, one tennis ball at a time!
The Tennis Ball Lifecycle
Ever wondered what happens to your tennis ball after its bounce? Once the gas seeps out, itâs flat and lifelessâperfect for landfill, but tragic for the planet. Wittock, however, sees a brighter future. Her furniture doesnât just look good; when the pieces come to the end of their lifecycle, owners can give them back. The fuzzy exterior gets burnt away, while the rubber shells are reborn as bouncy play mats for children. Talk about a serve and volley of goodness!
Wittockâs innovative circular economy initiative offers a glimpse into a future where waste is reimagined into comfort and style, proving that sustainability has never lookedâor feltâbetter!
