A Marathon for Memories: One Runner's Inspiring Journey
In a delightful feat of determination and spirit, Zorran Carnell, a first-time marathon runner from Derby, has sprinted his way into our heartsāand raised over Ā£10,000 for the much-loved charity me&dee. After 14 years of waiting for his chance to run the prestigious London Marathon, Zorran not only accomplished the race but did it while making a powerful impact on families facing life's toughest challenges.
Heartfelt Commitment to Community
Zorran's journey to the London Marathon is akin to a dramatic twist in a filmājust when you think the hero might give up, they find their moment to shine! With the support of numerous Derby organisations, friends, and family, he didnāt just run; he ran with purpose. The funds he raised will help me&dee, a charity that creates treasured memories for families with limited time together, providing comfort packs and opportunities for unforgettable days out.
As Zorran put it, āIām not really a runnerā¦Iāve been putting my name in the London Marathon ballot for 14 years!ā Who knew that persistence could lead to such an impactful prize?
Celebrating a Local Legacy
At his celebration event held at OMOMO Korean Street Food, Zorran handed over a whopping cheque of Ā£10,606.64 to charity founder Maria Hanson MBE. Joining him was ten-year-old Taylor Lewis, a junior ambassador and quadruple amputee, whose very existence showcases the charityās incredible work. Itās like a scene from a heartwarming movie, where stars align for a noble cause.
This year, me&dee celebrates 18 years of brightening lives, having touched over 9,000 families. With Zorran's help, the charity can extend its reach even further, reminding us that sometimes, running a marathon can lead to even greater breakthroughs off the track!

Sound Waves: The Next Big Thing in Healing
credit ā University of Utah
Imagine a device that looks like a crown and has the potential to alleviate pain and depression in just a single 40-minute session! Welcome to the innovation of the Diadem, where therapeutic sound waves might take the place of traditional pharmaceuticals in mental health and pain relief. Who knew that the future of healing could feel so regal?
The Science Behind the Sound
The Diadem works its magic by sending ultrasonic frequencies to the brain with remarkable precision. It's like a symphony conducted directly inside your head, targeting specific areas, such as the anterior cingulate cortexāhome to our pain and emotional regulator. While some might be skeptical about non-pharmaceutical treatments, the lead researcher, Tom Riis, shares that the results have been nothing short of mind-blowing! With 60% of participants reporting a significant decrease in pain, itās clear that this approach is striking a chord.
Real Lives, Real Changes
Patients have described the sensation as if their brains have taken a mini-vacation; one participant even remarked, āI was walking around the grocery store and just felt so clear.ā Who knew a supermarket could feel like a stroll in the park? From examining the improvement in mood and behaviourāsome folks reportedly transformed after their sessionsāit's evident that the Diadem isnāt just making waves; itās revolutionising the very way we think about healing.
So, if youāre in the UK and suffer from chronic pain or depression, consider taking part in the upcoming phase 3 trial. Who knows? You might just be one session away from feeling as light as a feather!
Wildflower Meadows: Natureās Floral Fiesta!

This summer, the breathtaking wildflower meadows of north Devon have burst into bloom for the very first time, filling the fields with a dazzling array of colours and fragrances. It's as if Mother Nature decided to throw a welcome party with oxeye daisies and viper's bugloss as the star performers!
Blooming Marvelous Progress
Over two years, the National Trustās largest ever wildflower project has transformed 90 hectares of land ā roughly the size of 197 football pitches ā into a spectacle of species-rich grasslands. Thanks to a mighty 1.3 tons of seeds collected and sown, we've witnessed an astounding increase in wildflower coverage from just 2% to a whopping 40%! Project co-ordinator Joshua Day basked in the glory: āThis first full bloom is an indication of success for the future of species-rich grasslands here in Devon!ā
A Buzz of Life
But itās not just the flowers putting on a show; the wildlife is getting in on the action, too! The blossoming plants have attracted a delightful variety of pollinators, including the elusive brown-banded carder bee and fluttering butterflies. And letās not forget about the meadow grasshoppers ā hundreds of them are hopping around, providing tasty snacks for local birds like swifts and house martins, which are keen to feast on such burgeoning insect populations.
As we keep a watchful eye on these blossoming beauties, itās clear that north Devon is not just experiencing a floral renaissance, but a veritable wildlife revival! So next time you're out and about, spare a thought for those green-thumbed volunteers and rangers sowing the seeds of change. Who knew a bloom could be this big? š¼
